Public Awareness Campaign​ on Cleanliness

North East Educational Trust in association with Oil India Limited had conducted a Public Awareness Campaign on Cleanliness as a part of its Swachhta Pakwada initiative from 1st July to 9th July’2019. The main objective of this campaign was to train children of different government schools to create awareness about the basic tenets of cleanliness by participating in workshops on street play, mime and a story writing competition. Children from different government schools performed street plays and mime across different locations in Guwahati to teach the city about cleanliness.

Street-play workshop in Kamrup Academy School & Uzanbazar School

2 workshops on street-play and mime on the theme of “Swachhta” were conducted simultaneously from 1st to 7th July with three different groups of children. The weeklong workshops on street-play were conducted in 2 government schools, Uzan Bazar Govt. High School and Kamrup Academy Higher Secondary School. 29 children from Class VI- VIII of Uzan Bazar High School participated in the workshop facilitated by director Pranab Bharalli. He worked very hard with the children to create a thought-provoking street-play. Actor Kamal Lochan facilitated the second Street Play Workshop with 13 students from Class VI –XI of Kamrup Academy Higher Secondary School participated in it. The children with the help of the facilitator created a satire on the issue of “Swachhta”.

Workshop on Mime

The mime workshop was facilitated by mime artist cum activist, Mriganka Deka in NEET’s Community Library.20 children from different schools ranging from age group 8-12 years, the regulars of NEET’s Community Library participated in it. The central theme of the workshop is “Swachhta”.

Showcasing of street play and Mime

The 2 street plays and the mime performance were showcased in the following locations across Guwahati:

  • Uzan Bazar Govt. High School’s street play was showcased at Dighalipukhuri Park and Nehru Park
  • Kamrup Academy High Secondary School’s street play at Streetzaa, Chandmari and Shradhanjali Kanan Park
  • NEET Community Library’s mime at Central Mall and Rudraksh Mall

The street-plays and the mime performance were well received by the audience.
