Our Approach
Established in 2018, NEET's Community Library serves as a safe haven for children from diverse backgrounds in Guwahati. It addresses the lack of accessible public library spaces and supplementary educational support in urban-marginalised neighborhoods.
NEET's Community Library is built on the belief that every child deserves access to a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. The programme promotes holistic development by combining literacy, academic support, creative expression, and community engagement. Through regular library sessions, including read-alouds, storytelling, book talks, book browsing, and interactive reading activities, children develop language skills, strengthen reading habits, and build a lifelong love for books. The library also offers free after-school academic support in English, Assamese, Hindi, Mathematics, Science, and Social Sciences, helping children strengthen foundational learning and improve academic confidence.
Beyond academics, the library creates opportunities for children to learn through creative workshops, cultural events, experiential learning, and performing arts, encouraging curiosity, collaboration, confidence, and self-expression. Regular home visits, parent interactions, and community engagement initiatives strengthen partnerships with families and promote a shared responsibility for children's education. Since its establishment, NEET's Community Library has reached more than 2,500 children from economically disadvantaged and urban slum communities in Guwahati, creating equitable opportunities for children to learn, grow, and thrive in a nurturing environment.
Our Goals
To develop children's abilities of critical and analytical thinking by engaging them in various creative activities.
To provide classes after school for academic support to children by teaching subjects like Maths, Science, English, Assamese, and Social Science through child-centric pedagogy.
To provide equal access to quality educational materials like books, magazines, art, and craft materials to marginalised children.
To organise workshops and interactive sessions on art, theatre, dance, music, and mime, providing children and youth with a space to explore their imagination.
