Impact Stories
Real stories from the children and educators whose journeys shape NEET's work.
Educators
Sangeeta Deka
Assistant Teacher, LOG Hindi High School
For Sangeeta Deka, teaching is not just about completing a lesson. It is about finding ways to help children participate, understand and express themselves. As part of NEET's engagement with LOG Hindi High School, she uses read-alouds, storytelling, rhymes, role play, flashcards and contextual materials to make language learning more active. Today, as a resource person teacher, she is also part of a wider community of educators who learn, reflect and share together.
Kalpana Barman
Head Teacher, Kharghuli Sishu Vidyapeeth
Kalpana Barman anticipated a switch from traditional to interactive methods when NEET proposed the Language Learning Programme at Kharghuli Sishu Vidyapeeth. The methods applied by NEET, including picture books, displays, storytelling and structured play, have helped increase her students' attention during class and brought meaningful change to the teaching-learning process. She now insists that head teachers of every school implement NEET's language programme, certain it will help children expand their outlook on learning.
Deepa Das
Head Teacher, Jaipur Prathomik Vidyalaya
When NEET first approached Deepa Das about the Language Learning Programme, she was sceptical it would be feasible, but curious to see it work on her pupils. The methods that won her over were NEET's diverse approaches: picture books, displays and storytelling sessions tailored for slow learners. Today, her students actively look forward to her lessons, and she champions activity-based learning as the way forward for any classroom, no matter how limited the resources.
Children & Youth
Bishal Das
Student of Kamrup Academy
When Bishal first came to our library two years ago, brought in by his friend Sahil, he was a very shy boy who observed from a corner of the reading room and did not talk to anyone. He has since grown into one of the library's most active members: keeping books in order, cleaning shelves, putting games away and inviting his school friends and his brother Ashish to visit. Bishal and his friends now create skits from the storybooks they read and perform them every week, and he won second prize at the state-level Storytelling Competition 2021.
Azima Khatoon
Uzanbazar Govt. High School
When the regular library students decided to form a student council and hold elections for president, Azima was the first to step forward to canvass, and her fiery, eloquent speech made her the council's first president. She is also an excellent singer with clear enunciation and vocal control, and she now gives singing lessons to her friends at the Community Library. A student of Uzambazar Govt. High School, Azima aced her annual exam and remains a model student, crediting the library with giving her the confidence to do well in every aspect of life.
Zomila Begum
Uzanbajar Shishu Vidyalaya
When 7-year-old Zomila first arrived at the Community Library with her elder sister Zarina, she would not speak to anyone. She only walked, lay on the carpet with a picture book, or listened to stories. She slowly started to open up, first with 'yes' and 'no' answers, then with drawings, and eventually with a confident dance she had taught herself from YouTube tutorials. From the girl who refused to talk, Zomila has come a long way, but her journey, filled with hope, opportunities and endless possibilities, has only just begun.
