SHINE
Sustainable Handloom Initiative by NEET's Enterprise — empowering women, youth, and traditional weavers from tribal and economically disadvantaged communities.
Project SHINE (Sustainable Handloom Initiative by NEET's Enterprise) empowers women, youth, and traditional weavers from tribal and economically disadvantaged communities by transforming indigenous handwoven textiles into contemporary home décor and lifestyle products. The project promotes sustainable livelihoods while preserving the rich handloom traditions of Northeast India. By combining skill development, value addition, enterprise development, and market linkages, Project SHINE enables artisans to build sustainable incomes while celebrating the region's unique weaving heritage.
The initiative establishes community-based weaving and stitching units where traditional weavers from Bodo, Mising, and Deori communities work alongside trained women and youth to create high-quality handcrafted products. Through training in stitching, machine operation, quality control, product finishing, branding, and packaging, participants develop market-ready skills. By connecting artisans with exhibitions, retail partners, CSR initiatives, and online marketplaces, Project SHINE creates meaningful livelihood opportunities for communities living around Nameri National Park, where limited employment options and frequent human-wildlife conflict make sustainable income generation especially important.
