NEET's Sports Centre Project

Holistic youth development through sports in rural Sonitpur, Assam.

The Sports Centre Project promotes holistic youth development by encouraging physical wellbeing, teamwork, discipline, confidence, and leadership among children and youth in rural Sonitpur district, Assam. NEET has established two rural sports centres: Nameri Sports Centre, offering Volleyball training in the Chariduar area, and Ghoramari Youth Sports Academy, offering Handball training in the Ghoramari area. Through these centres, children and youth from rural communities have access to free and structured sports training, helping them develop their sporting potential while building healthy habits and essential life skills.

The project offers year-round coaching, quality sports infrastructure, and opportunities for competitive exposure through tournaments and championships. Talented players are identified and mentored to participate in district, state, and national-level competitions, while regular training helps nurture teamwork, leadership, discipline, resilience, and confidence. Currently, over 140 children and youth from the Ghoramari area receive free handball training at Ghoramari Youth Sports Academy, while over 90 children and youth from the Chariduar area receive free volleyball training at Nameri Sports Centre. Together, the centres engage over 230 young athletes and continue to strengthen a vibrant sporting culture in rural communities.
